Students in Graduate Planning Student Association and the Urban Collective quickly joined the movement and helped to develop a plan for constructing semi-permanent garden beds in front of Hayes Annex C. The beds were constructed and the plants have been transplanted. Plans for a rain barrel and additional beds to prepare for next year are in the works. Interested in community gardening on campus, Alpha Kappa Chi Fraternity has joined the project as well.
The mission of the South Campus Community Garden is:

- to bring students together to learn about how to produce and prepare healthy foods
- to create an opportunity for students to experiment with gardening techniques that promote sustainable urban agriculture
- to produce a well-designed, aesthetically pleasing garden for the benefit of the university community
